ExtraCap™ Inc. is the world’s leading company focused on the research, development and licensing of Extraordinary-Capability
products, services and devices for any individual who has special needs (e.g., blind, deaf, cognitively impaired,
paralyzed/bed-ridden, etc.) or for any individual who wishes to have Extra-Capability functionality to augment their
professional or personal-time experiences (e.g., business people with staff assistance, firefighters in challenging environments,
medical technicians in emergency situations, pilots in unfamiliar settings, hikers/cyclists in new surroundings, tourists
visiting museums, etc.).
The inspiration for the company’s name is that “ExtraCap” can help someone overcome a “Handicap.” Our definition of a handicap
is intentionally broad enough to encompass not only those who suffer from a permanent disability such as being blind, deaf,
paralyzed or cognitively impaired but also those who wish to overcome one of the natural handicaps of being human such as
seeing/hearing/speaking at a distance (via cellular hookups with remote cameras), being in two or more places at once (via
environment monitoring and virtual presence devices), or having access to augmented intelligence (via connection with an ExtraCap
Guide who has access to the web’s worth of information).
ExtraCap’s mission is to provide EXTRAordinary CAPabilities to those with limited abilities.
The foundation of all of ExtraCap’s products, services and devices is the ExtraCap Operating System (ECOS) that allows for the
management and control of multiple hardware input and output devices that are worn by the individual seeking the ExtraCap-augmented
experience in addition to remote computing and/or human resources which are monitoring the ExtraCap environment and communicating
critical information in real-time via wireless/remote technology to the parties involved. ECOS will also be able to allow a Remote
Assistant to monitor/guide multiple ExtraCap environment sessions assuming they are in stages requiring minimal input (i.e., in the
same way a single person can monitor and interact with several chat rooms or instant message sessions at once).
The goal is to use as much off-the-shelf consumer hardware and software as possible, in combination with the ECOS, to speed the
rate of product development and deployment and minimize the cost to our consumers. We believe the Internet, wireless technology
and remote-presence devices are now sufficiently developed to allow this. We also believe that the human remote assistant can be
a critical part of the equation that fills all of the gaps that traditional AI software has when faced with real world situations.
