Rising early climb to Horombo Hut, 12,334 feet. This is a 10 mile walk, which takes about 5 hours, through forests and then across open moorland. The giant lobelian begin to appear at 11,000 feet. Overnight Horombo Hut.

Climb through the Saddle, 15,000 feet, lying between Mawenzi the twin peaks of Mawenzi 17,000 feet on the right and Kibo at 19,442 feet on the left. Walking along the saddle for 3 miles can be slow and cold because of the high altitude. Overnight Kibo Hut.

Kilimanjaro Summit

 

Rise very early, shortly after midnight, climb to Gilman's Point 18,655 feet situated on the rim of the crater and watch the dawn break. Continue around the rim of the crater to Uhuru Point 19,342 feet. The air is variable and the climb will take at least two hours. Mt Kenya may be visible in the distance on the clearest of days.

This is the last day on Kilimanjaro descending the mountain slopes to the Marangu Hotel arriving in time for lunch. The balance of the day will be free to rest after the splendid achievement of conquering Mt Kilimanjaro "the roof of Africa". Dinner and overnight at the Marangu Hotel.
